If anyone were ever to ask me what they should do if they visit Marseille, one of the first things I would suggest is to take a boat ride through the Calanques. My sister recommended it to me and I was not disappoint. If you are like me and weren’t quite sure what the word ‘Calanque’ meant, they are steep cliff inlets, typically made of limestone as you can see from the photos above. It was the most pleasant day we spent in Marseille for me being that hanging out on the water is my happy place. Not to mention the ‘naturalist beach’ (nude beach) we drove by and the boat of French boys that mooned us as they sped by. An exciting time, indeed.
